The Society of St Vincent de Paul was formed in 1833 in France and now operates in 135 countries around the world with the sole purpose of helping the poor. It is funded exclusively by donations and operated by volunteers from the Catholic Church and other supporters of our mission. Services are provided to people of any religion – or none.
In the Collingwood chapter we have about 35 members and we are a registered charity with CRA. We are based out of St Mary's Catholic Church in Collingwood. Because of our all-volunteer setup, rent-free premises and our minimal administration expenses, you can be assured that almost all your donation pays for food or other assistance for the needy families in our community. We help poor families in practical ways.
All of our members complete a 'vulnerable sector screening' process with the local police.
You can contribute to our work by becoming a member, or by donating cash or non-perishable food. Cash is always better since our team of volunteer buyers are very skilled at buying food at the best possible prices.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goal of helping our neighbours in need in the Collingwood area. We are an all-volunteer organization so over 95% of donations go into programs to assist the poor in our area and we depend on donations small and large to "turn concern into ACTION".
